Road Test: 2010 Suzuki SX4 2.0 CVT

I’ve always been a fan of the SX4. Perhaps it’s something in its compact size, which whilst it delivers a commanding view of the road ahead allows its driver to manoeuvre with relative ease and park without threat of shoulder realignment, all of which appeals to someone of my diminutive size. Not one for the metal mountain nor likely to head off to a far-flung quagmire in the bush, what the SX4 delivers is just fine by me.
 
The most apparent change to the SX4 is its all-new 2.0 litre engine, offering an enhanced 112kW - up from 107 and a torque figure of 190Nm. Apart from being smoother than its predecessor this engine promises to be more economical, not to mention kinder on the environment than the version previously buried beneath its bonnet.
 
While the SX4 will not see you blasting through narrow gaps in the traffic, it does promise an effortless urban driving experience; a rare pleasure for those of us who spend many an hour battling it out on our cities roads.
 
With nips and tucks here and there, the Japanese auto manufacturer has ensured that refinements, whilst for the most part are subtle provide supporters of the range with what they want: enhanced performance, greater fuel efficiency and advanced functionality.
 
The interior of the Suzuki has not been overlooked, receiving one or two modifications of its own extending to revamp trim for the doors and seats and a completely new instrument cluster.
 
There was nothing wrong with the SX4 in its previous form and I’m pleased to note that its creators have paid heed to the moniker ‘if it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it’. With subtle enhancements favoured over a dramatic departure from the original, the Suzuki SX4 is now even better.
